Summarizing YouTube Videos For Free

You’ve heard this before, right? There’s something like 500 hours of YouTube video content uploaded every MINUTE. Staying informed and up-to-date with the latest content can be a herculean task even if you’re just sticking to truly informational channels. This article introduces effective strategies and tools for summarizing YouTube videos, saving you time and helping boost your productivity.

Introduction

YouTube is an invaluable resource for learning and entertainment, offering content on virtually any topic imaginable. However, sifting through lengthy videos to extract pertinent information can be time-consuming. I wanted to share some practical tools that can save you time and are free to use (at the time of publishing this article) to get you started summarizing important or lengthy YouTube videos.

One of the ways to save time with these summaries is to find a longer video that you want to watch and get the summaries with timestamps – then you can focus down to the parts you really want to watch or need and skip the rest, or come back to it later.

Free Summarization Tools

Eightify App – Chrome Extension

  • Easy Installation: The Eightify Chrome extension is a user-friendly tool that integrates directly into your YouTube interface, providing a convenient summarization button.
  • Quick Summaries: It offers timestamp summaries, allowing you to jump to key points in the video, saving valuable time.
  • User Experience: The summaries retain important points, displayed on the YouTube page for easy access.

Summarize.tech

  • One-Off Summarization: Summarize.tech is ideal for occasional use without the need for installation, Summarize.tech offers a straightforward, web-based summarization solution.
  • Cost-Effective: Free to use

Paid Tools and Personal Solutions

  • Summarily App: Developed to scratch my own itch, Summarily.app offers a tailored solution for staying up-to-date with subscribed YouTube channels through email digests or web app summaries that get the information to you instead of requiring you to be on Youtube.
  • Readwise: Readwise provides so much value that I personally encourage people to check it out as not only a summary tool but also a read it later app, information collection and organization, highlighter, and resurfacer of highlights and saved knowledge.
