While being organized can certainly take your productivity up (and I recommend having some organization to your day to day activities!), I find it just as important to have a fast and easy way to jot down ideas as they come to you.
For myself, I’ve found that having my handy notebook around let’s me get ideas, drawings, mind maps, and even financial stuff down quickly so that I can have it safely out of my head and start to process it.
This process may include:
- Looking it over and realizing it’s not important. Done!
- Coming back to it during my next daily or weekly review and assigning a follow up.
- Realizing it’s very important and using the note or sketch to begin to flesh out a fully fledged idea or project
Of course, this depends on how you like to structure your thought process and organization. If the thought of a disorganized journal or notebook scares you, then read no further! Everyone has a different way of doing this – so don’t think that this is the way it has to be.
However, I do believe that most people will find this useful. Even if it isn’t a paper and pen notebook you should probably have somewhere to off load your ideas and thoughts as they come to you so that you can move on to more important tasks and review them later to see if anything needs to be acted on.
